RI/FS Completed Activities

  • December 2015:  Completed field activities associated with Groundwater Investigation Work Plan except for hydraulic testing and groundwater elevations or potential additional locations for further delineation; Participated in meeting with Agencies and Public Stakeholders to present the initial findings of the groundwater investigation work on 9DEC; participated in a meeting with Acton Water District regarding the Groundwater investigation finding on 11DEC; Submitted request to MassDEP for reimbursement to the RI/FS Trust of incurred Groundwater Investigation expenses on 3DEC.
  • November 2015: Conducted hydraulic testing and performed a groundwater elevation round in accordance with the Groundwater Investigation Work Plan.
  • October 2015: Continued monitoring well installation in accordance with approved plans – installed 9 new monitoring wells and performed a round of groundwater sampling.
  • September 2015: Commenced field activities for the Groundwater Investigation Work Plan on 1 SEP – Installed 14 new monitoring wells in accordance with approved plans and performed a groundwater elevation measurement round. EPA issued the Record of Decision for the NMI site on 30SEP.
  • August 2015: Coordinated access with property owners to allow implementation of the Groundwater Investigation Work Plan. Submitted the response to comments and the revised Groundwater Investigation Work Plan for groundwater investigation activities related to 1, 4 dioxane on 20AUG. Submitted the revised Quality Assurance Plan Tables naming Alpha Analytical as the laboratory performing the 1, 4 dioxane analysis. Received EPA approval of hte Groundwater Investigation Work Plan on 27AUG.
  • July 2015: Submitted the Groundwater Investigation Work Plan for the groundwater investigation activities related to 1,4-dioxane on 9JUL2015.
  • June 2015: Continued preparing a scope of work for groundwater investigation activities related to 1,4-dioxane.
  • May 2015: Continued preparing scope of work for groundwater investigation. Participated in meeting to discuss investigation and funding options for groundwater issues related to 1,4 dioxane on 13 MAY. Requested an extension on 15MAY15 for the due date for EPA’s 12MAR15 RI/FS oversight bill. EPA granted the extension on 18MAY15, resulting in a new due date of 20JUL15.
  • April 2015: Participated in the 10 APR meeting to discuss the scope of and funding options needed to complete the delineation of site-related 1,4 dioxane in groundwater. Continued preparing a scope of work for the groundwater investigation activities related to 1,4 dioxane. Received EPA’s agreement on 21 APR to extend the due date for payment of the RI/FS oversight bill for 30 days (to 19 MAY 2015).
  • March 2015: Participated in the 17 MAR meeting with the public groups and Agencies. Worked with EPA and MassDEP to identify key elements for another Non-Time-Critical Removal Action (NTCRA), which will address 1,4-dioxane in groundwater.
  • January and February 2015:  Remained available to provide assistance in the preparation of the Responsiveness Summary if requested by the Agencies.
  • December 2014: Participated in the Public Hearing with the Agencies on the Proposed Remedial Action Plan on 10 DEC.
  • November 2014: Received USEPA approval on the Feasibility Study on 3 NOV; Participated in the Public Meeting on the Proposed Remedial Action Plan on 12 NOV; participated in a Site walk with the Agencies on 21 NOV.
  • October 2014: Provided a list of addresses within 1/2 mile of the site to USEPA for use in making public notifications of the availability of the Proposed Remedial Action Plan. Received EPA’s revisions to the Feasibility Study ARAR table on 23 OCT 2014, met with EPA, Mass DEP, and respondents on 27 OCT 2014 to review draft Public Meeting presentation, completed revisions to the Feasibility Study; USEPA issued Proposed Cleanup Plan for the site on 31OCT.
  • September 2014: Submitted revised ARAR tables for the Feasibility Study to USEPA on 11 SEP and the final apatite pilot study report on 16 SEP; participated in a Site meeting with the agencies and Public Stakeholders to discuss the Feasibility Study and Proposed Plan on 17 SEP; submitted revised Feasibility Study text, tables, and figures on 24 SEP.
  • August 2014: Continued making revisions to Feasibility Study Report to respond to USEPA comments; continued summarization of data collected during he “Field and Laboratory Media Testing for Uranium Sequestration in Groundwater” pilot study.
  • July 2014: Received EPA’s comments on and revisions to the draft Feasibility Study on 8JUL14. Participated in a meeting with the Agencies to review and discuss EPA’s comments on the Feasibility Study on 24JUL14. Responded to EPA requests and questions regarding FS clarifications and issues relating to the draft Proposed Plan. Continued summarization of data for the pilot study.
  • June 2014:  Finalized the Baseline Ecological Risk Assessment based on Agency comments and posted to website. Continued summarization of data collected during the Field and Laboratory Media Testing for Uranium Sequestration in Groundwater pilot study.
  • May 2014: Provided EPA and MassDEP with the interim Field and Laboratory Media Testing for Depleted Uranium Sequestration in Overburden Groundwater, pilot study, report on 12 MAY 2014. Received final comments and revisions on the Baseline Ecological Risk Assessment on 14MAY2014.
  • April 2014: Received EPA approval of the Remedial Investigation Report and Human Health Risk Assessment on 2 Apr 2014. Participated in meeting with the Agencies and Public Stakeholders groups to discuss Feasibility Study on 9 Apr 2014. Continued laboratory testing of depleted uranium media used in the “Field and Laboratory Testing for Uranium Sequestration in Groundwater” pilot study.
  • March 2014: Completed the field testing portion of the uranium sequestration in groundwater. Continued revising the Feasibility Study. Provided the August 2013 1,4-dioxane groundwater data to MassDEP on 10 MAR 2014. Responded to a 21 MAR 2014 request from MassDPH contractor ERG to provide the analytical data with water sampling at the Valley Sports facility at 2320 Main Street. Participated in a 31 MAR 2014 conference call with EPA and MassDEP to discuss the FS revisions.
  • February 2014: Continued the field and laboratory media testing for uranium sequestration in groundwater. Participated in the meeting with the Agencies and public stakeholders to discuss the Feasibility Study (FS) and National Remedy Review Board meeting on 6 FEB 2014. Received EPA comments on the derivation of Preliminary Remediation Goals (PRGs) used in the FS.
  • January 2014: Continued providing support to the Agencies with response to comments from the December 2013 National Remedy Review Board. Continued field and laboratory media testing for uranium sequestration in groundwater scope of work. Addressed additional EPA comments on the Baseline Ecological Risk Assessment (BERA). Met with EPA and Mass DEP to discuss planned revisions to the Feasibility Study (FS) to address NRRB comments.
  • December 2013: Continued providing support to EPA in preparation for the National Remedy Review Board review of the proposed remedial approach. Commenced implementation on the scope of work for the Field and Laboratory Media Testing for Uranium Sequestration in Groundwater.
  • November 2013: 
    • Continued providing support for EPA’s preparation for the National Remedy Review Board meeting scheduled for December 2013.
    • Continued data validation from August 2013 groundwater sampling event.
    • Received Agency approval for the Field and Laboratory Testing for Uranium Sequestration in Groundwater scope of work on November 25, 2013.
    • Following discussion with EPA, provided the Baseline Ecological Risk Assessment (BERA) text and tables to EPA for modification on November 14, 2013.
  • October 2013: Commenced validation of August groundwater sampling activities. Assisted EPA in variety of requests relating to EPA’s preparation for its’ presentation to the National Remedy Review board.
  • September 2013:
    • Participated in a meeting with the Agencies and public stakeholders to discuss the revised Feasibility Study on September 4, 2013.
    • Submitted the revised Remedial Investigation Report for Agency review and approval on September 5, 2013.
    • Participated in a discussion on the draft Feasibility Study on September 19, 2013 with representatives of EPA, Mass DEP, the Department of Justice, the Department of Energy, and the Respondents.
    • Submitted the final Human Health Risk Assessment and Ecological Risk Assessment on September 25, 2013, for Agency approval.
    • Submitted the Respondents’ comments on remedy selection for consideration by the National Remedy Review Board on September 30, 2013.
  • August 2013: Completed groundwater sampling activities at the site. Installed a vapor intrusion abatement system at 2250 Main Street which became operational this month. A sub-slab soil gas probe was installed in the floor of the maintenance room and a soil gas sample was taken.
  • July 2013: Notified Agencies of groundwater sampling event on select monitoring wells, which commenced on 30JUL13. Continued revisions to both the Feasibility Study Report and the Remedial Investigation Report.
  • June 2013: Continued revisions to the Feasibility Study Report. Received EPA’s comments on the Remedial Investigation Report and written comments on the draft Feasibility Study Report. Received EPA’s approval on the Baseline Ecological Risk Assessment.
  • May 2013:  Initiated revisions to the Feasibility Study Report.
  • April 2013: Participated in meeting with Agencies and public stakeholders to discuss the draft Feasibility Study.
  • March 2013: Participated in a meeting with the Agencies to discuss EPA’s and CREW’s comments on the draft Feasibility Study. Provided a proposed approach to revisions to the soils and groundwater alternatives analysis in the draft Feasibility Study.
  • February 2013: Provided copies of the final Human Health Risk Assessment, revised Ecological Risk Assessment, and draft Remedial Investigation Report to representatives of the community groups.
  • January 2013: Submitted the Feasibility Study to the Agencies for review.
  • November 2012: Submitted the Remedial Investigation Report to the Agencies for review. Provided executive summaries of the final draft Human Health Risk Assessment and the draft Ecological Risk Assessment (currently under EPA review) to CREW and the 2229 Main Street Committee.
