Public Meeting and Hearing on Proposed Remedial Action Plan

There will be a Public Meeting at 6:30 PM on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at the Concord Town Hall Meeting Room (22 Monument Square, Concord, MA) on the Proposed Remedial Action Plan.

The Public Hearing on the Proposed Remedial Action Plan for the Nuclear Metals, Inc. Superfund Site will be at 6:30 PM on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at the Concord Town Hall Meeting Room (22 Monument Square, Concord, MA).

Site Meeting on Building and Groundwater NTCRAs

On 31 AUG 2016, representatives from EPA, MassDEP and de maximis met with members of the 2229 Main Street Committee, CREW, and Green Acton, as well as representatives of the Town of Acton and Acton Water District to present an update on the Building and Groundwater Non-Time-Critical Removal Actions (NTCRAs).

The Groundwater NTCRA AOC became effective in July 2016. Between October 2015 and July 2016, significant further delineation of the extent of groundwater contamination was completed. The next steps under the Groundwater NTCRA will be installation of pumping and monitoring wells, hydraulic testing, and design and construction of an ex-situ groundwater treatment system.

EPA Issues Fact Sheet on NMI Activities Update

In light of building demolition resuming on 19 APR 16, EPA issued a fact sheet to update on the status of activities on site and the various winter activities performed for the test of the Assabet 1A and 2A production wells to define the “capture zone,” which will assist in determining an effective location to install and test a pumping well.

CREW and 2229 Main Street met with Agencies on site on 17 March 2015

Public groups and de maximis met with the Agencies on 17 MAR 2015 on site to discuss the NTCRA status and schedule for building demolition as well as the planning for the remedy for 1, 4-dioxane in groundwater. The 2229 Main Street Committee provided an update to the Town’s approach to potentially taking the Site.

NMI Proposed Plan reported in Boston Globe, Public Notice

Information regarding the USEPA Proposed Remedial Plan was reported in the 9 NOV 2014 issue of the Boston Globe. Much of this information was based on USEPA’s release of the Public Notice.

CREW and 2229 Main Street Committee meet EPA, Mass DEP on site.

Representatives of EPA, Mass DEP and de maximis met with members of CREW and the 2229 Main Street Committee on September 17, 2014. The agenda included a discussion of both the Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Study (RI/FS) process and status of the Non-Time Critical Removal Action (NTCRA). FS agenda items included the ongoing revisions to the Feasibility Study and the schedule for next steps on the FS and the Proposed Plan. NTCRA agenda items included a discussion of the revised Rooftop Equipment Removal Plan, status of the perimeter Air Monitoring Program, and an update on the ongoing “High Hazard” removal work.

2229 Main Street Committee and Members of CREW met on site with EPA, Mass DEP

Representatives from EPA, MassDEP and de maximis met with members of CREW and the 2229 Main Street Committee on 9 APR 2014 to discuss the status of the Remedial Investigation and Feasibility Study (RI/FS) and the Non-time Critical Removal Action (NTCRA). The RI/FS discussions included an update regarding an ongoing pilot study of a potential in-situ treatment approach for depleted uranium in groundwater and an update on the anticipated schedule to complete revisions to the Feasibility Study, prepare and issue a Proposed Plan for the Site and the Record of Decision. The NTCRA discussions touched on current work and focused on the draft Air Monitoring Plan and Rooftop Equipment Removal Work Plan.

Project team met with the Agencies and Public Stakeholder groups on 6 Feb 14 to discuss the Feasibility Study and National Remedy Review Board (NNRB) meeting.

The revised Feasibility Study was discussed in a meeting with the Agencies and public stakeholders on September 4, 2013.

Members of the Public Groups participated in a site walk on June 24, 2013, with Agencies Concord Fire Department, representatives of Respondents and de maximis.
