Burn Bar Used to Reduce Size of Large Equipment

Total Groundwater Processed

Through mid-June, 2019, approximately 1.35 million gallons of groundwater have been processed through the Permanent Groundwater Treatment System (Final Treatment System), which has been operational since April 2, 2019.

Previously, approximately 17 million gallons of groundwater were processed through the Temporary Groundwater Treatment System (TGTS) to maintain hydraulic capture of the plume. The TGTS operated from May 23, 2017 until the Final Treatment System was operational.

A burn bar, or thermal lance, heats and melts steel in the presence of pressurized oxygen to create very high temperatures to cut large pieces of machinery. On site, the burn bar was used for size reduction for the pressure tank and 1,400 ton press as seen in the Burn Bar 2016 movie.
